Freezing is a one-part performance created by actors who have just graduated from the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theater (course leaders Algirdas Latėnas and Vidas Bareikis). The audience could see the first performance in spring 2019, when Freezing was presented at the LAMT Balcony Theater as the winner of the Balcony Occupation Competition.
The performance is both dramaturgical and directorial debut of actor Motiejus Ivanauskas. The starting point was the assignment to try and write a play in the third year of the academy. With his fellow students (Andrius Alešiūnas, Povilas Jatkevičius, Deividas Breivė, Kamilė Lebedytė, and Mantas Bendžius), he won the Balcony Occupation Sketch Competition. Joined by costume and stage designer Izabelė Narečionytė M. Ivanauskas developed the written play into a full-fledged performance.
The characters in the performance are unspecified individuals involved in relationships that at first sight seem difficult to describe. They come to a meeting and talk… they just talk. Their important “thoughts” create a nonsensical hotchpotch, thus the performance is full of playful and comic elements. It is not a public examination of any particular contemporary problems, but an attempt to look at “problems” from a slightly different angle. A great deal of freedom is left to the viewers’ interpretation.
